Sniplet 73. Piggyback Story [Happyverse] [Xanderday]

Xander laid in his bed, meditating peacefully, when he heard someone enter the room. Leaping from his bed to attack any intruder who dared to enter the emperor’s room without knocking, he was shocked to see that the only intruders were his two children, Seva and Jiro, and their Uncle Elian.
“SURPRISE!” screamed Sevvie and Jiro (though Jiro several times quieter than his sister), before Sevvie begun to sing.
“IT’S THE DAD, IT’S THE DAD, HE’S THE WORLD’S OLDEST DAD, HE’S THE XANDER DAD AND ITS HIS BIRTHDAY! IT’S THE DAD, IT’S THE DAD, HE’S THE WORLD’S OLDEST DAD SO LET’S ALL SAY HAPPY XANDERDAY!”
Jiro and Elian now joined in, though Elian looked like he’d never heard this song before. “Happy xanderday, happy xanderday, happy xanderday Dad/Father/Xander, Happy xanderday!”
Sevvie and Jiro clapped loudly as Illiam finally woke up, disgruntled by the singing. “W-what’s- e-”
“Seva, Jiro, Elian, that was a wonderful song.” said Xander. “I only have one correction to make. I am, not, in fact, the world’s oldest dad. Why, my fathers are both older than me, there are many people who are fathers who are thousands of years old, like the gods or the titans, and in fact, in this very room, there is a father older than you.”
“Me?” asked Elian. “I don’t know if I count, my son is dead.”
“No, me.” said Illiam. “Kids, I’m much older than your Xander Dad. Almost thirty years older, in fact. I’m old enough to be his dad.”
Sevvie shook her head, hugging Xander. “That may be true chronologically, but in your heart, where it counts, you’re the world’s oldest.”
“I suppose my heart is rather old.” said Xander, thinking of the ancient organ that beat in his chest. “Anyway, what has Elian brought us?”
“We made you breakfast.” said Jiro. “Uncle Elian thought that it would be nice to do.”
“Oh.” said Xander. He looked at the tray of sloppy eggs, overcooked bacon, and pomegranates. “How thoughtful. Illiam, let us sit and eat.”
“Nuh huh, it isn’t for our other dad, it’s for you!” said Sevvie. “Happy Birthday, Xandad. It’s your breakfast.”
After breakfast, Illiam went to go find himself some food (not that he really needed it) while Xander took his morning shower and dressed for the day. He then again found his children and Illiam, in one of the palace gardens with Elian.
“Hi dad!” said Sevvie once Xander approached. “I was just telling Uncle Elian all the names of the sheepies.”
“Yes, like The Garp.” The Garp was, admittedly, the only one that Xander could remember the name of, somewhat in part because Sevvie kept changing them.
“How old are you today, father?” asked Jiro again.
“I am now 336 years old.” replied Xander. “And your other father is-”
“365.” said Sevvie. “I remember when he had his big birthday! That was just two weeks ago. I had a big party, Uncle Elian.”
‘I remember.” said Elian. “Sevvie, I was there. I made the cake.”
“It was my birthday and daddy’s birthday.” said Sevvie.
Elian nodded, having had a very similar conversation on the day of. “Yes, and it was my birthday too.”
“YOUR birthday!?” questioned Sevvie. “Why do you and dad and me all have our birthday on the same day?”
Illiam tried very hard not to roll his eyes at his own child, and begun once again to explain how twins worked. Once he was done, Sevvie nodded, having absorbed the information until the next time she forgot it.
“Are you going to have a big birthday party, dad?” asked Sevvie. “Can we have cake and ice cream and big balloons and will there be ponies and horsies and a big dog with a giant golden collar and-”
“There will of course be a party, Seva.” said Xander. “But I think you will have your bedtime before it ends.”
“Awwww!” said Sevvie, dissapointed.
“Can’t we stay up?” begged Jiro.
“Maybe a little.” said Illiam.”But not too much.” He exchanged a knowing look with Xander, as they both realized that no matter how much these children begged they’d be, as always, out like a light by nine.
“Can you give me a piggyback ride like you did on my birthday, dad?” asked Sevvie.
Xander smiled widely. “Seva, you are more than welcome to ask me for one anytime.” Sevvie shrieked excitedly and Xander knelt down so Seva could get onto his back. Sevvie climbed on, gripping tightly onto his horns, and then Xander got up and began walking around the gardens, Sevvie on his back. He was easily able to lift Sevvie, her tiny hooves gripping onto his sides as well.
“Here we go, dad! Let’s go over and see the goats!”
Xander went over to the goats as Sevvie cheered loudly. “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Dad!” Xander would have smiled at his daughter were she able to see it, and even though she wasn’t, a subconscious smile came to his lips. He’d always thought that true happiness would be found once he conquered the universe, but now, being a father, married to Illiam, he was happier than he’d ever been, even with those dreams abandoned.
“You certainly grip tightly onto those horns!” exclaimed Xander. “Just like your father!” The words were out of his mouth before he even thought fully about them.
“When did you ever give our other dad a piggyback ride? Isn’t he too big?” questioned Sevvie. Illiam turned beet red and looked away, while Elian tried very hard not to laugh. Xander finally realized what he’d said, and tried to think of a reply.
“Um, various times.” lied Xander. “Your father is very small, actually. Very thin and light. And I’m very strong.” Xander set Seva back down, near the goat enclosure. “I could demonstrate right now.’
“I don’t think you should.” said Illiam, regaining his regular complexion. “Jiro, would you like your father to give you a piggyback ride?”
Before Jiro could reply yes or no, Sevvie interupted. “Uncle Elian, these are the goats!” said Sevvie, pointing to the goats. “They have lots of names. For example, this one is Smelborp.”
Elian listened patiently to the names of all the goats (which he heard every time he came over) and Illiam slipped away to check on the party preperations. Yes, Xander’s life had gone somewhere he’d never imagined it would go, but he was satisfied with the new direction it was taking.
